Cedar Grove Grammar School Union County, TN |
|
|
Cedar
Grove Grammar School was originally the Sylvan Academy. No
record could be found of the exact date that Sylvan Academy was built, but
it was in the early 1800's. Also, there is no record of when it was
changed to Cedar Grove Grammar School, but a new school building was built
in 1890. This building was erected beside the Cedar Grove Baptist Church
on Hickory Valley Road and remained in service through the 1941-1942
school year. In 1942 another school building was built on a hill across
Hickory Valley road from the church and was opened for the 1942-1943
school year. According to records found, the school was in service through
the 1959-1960 school year. |
